Who is the boy playing the role of ‘Vikas’ in ‘Panchayat Web Series’?

While the OTT platforms are filled with abusing, sex, and violence, a beautiful fun series called ‘ Panchayat’ was released on Amazon Prime. This series of TVF (The Viral Fever), known for creating quality content, received a very good response as expected. One of the good things about this series is that it got our attention from a great artist like Chandan Roy. Nina Gupta, Raghuveer Yadav, Jitendra Kumar: These were the three, besides Chandan Roy, who appeared in the role of ‘Vikas’, who became the assistant of Panchayat Clerk Abhishek (the main character) and Faisal Malik, who became the Deputy Minister.

Today we want to talk about Chandan Roy grew up in village Bahnar in the Vaishali district of Bihar. At present, the situation in Mumbai is not good, so Chandan Roy is in his own village. He starts by saying, “Our village is similar to Phulera village shown in the panchayat!”

‘I studied in this village until ten.’ Chandan further says, ‘Then I took admission in Patna-College to do Mass Communication. I also did a diploma in radio and television at IINT, Delhi, but in the meantime, I was somehow connected to acting. When I was in the village, I used to do plays based on social issues. I was already a ‘filmy type’! I used to sit at the front of the theater with tickets and watch a lot of movies. Even after coming to Delhi, I did plays with JNU’s ‘Bahrup Group’. Over time, I started working with independent NSD directors … ‘

Chandan Roy has worked as a journalist for the Dainik Jagran in Delhi for two and a half years. ‘However, I was already interested in acting.’ Chandan further says, ‘Once enough money was collected, I left for Mumbai! Now the struggle began. Many months passed like this in Mumbai. There I got a job for a day in a serial called ‘Baba Ramdev’ of the newly started ‘Jeet Discovery’ channel. After that, I worked in daily-soaps to cover the cost of living in Mumbai. ‘

Chandan Roy has done a feature film called ‘Jamun’ with veteran actor Raghuveer Yadav, who is playing the role of Pradhan-pati in ‘Panchayat’. However, it has not been released yet. Chandan Roy said, “Even though my role in the film was very small, my confidence increased a lot.”

And with that confidence, Chandan Roy wakes up every morning in Mumbai like a struggler, randomly looks for work and comes back home at night to sleep! One such morning he was walking in the Aaram Nagar of Versova. There is an office of the casting company ‘Casting Bay’. Chandan went there before. He found out that the casting of a web-series called ‘Panchayat’ was going on. He was told, “You deserve to be an electrician, do you want to do it?”

Chandan Roy says with a smile, ‘I was ready to do whatever I could! I auditioned. He saw the audition and stopped me and said that there is another very important character audition for him again! That character is a young man named ‘Vikas’ who is working as a village assistant in the office of’ Panchayat ‘!’

Interestingly, the role of the electrician was later played by Deepak Kumar Mishra, the director of the Panchayat. Chandan Roy’s character in ‘Panchayat’ is Gamthi. Humor also arises from the language he speaks. Chandan says, ‘Such a language is spoken where I grew up. At first, I didn’t differentiate between ‘s’, ‘sh’, and ‘sh’. I learned that in Delhi-Mumbai. During the workshop of ‘Panchayat’, I was told that you have to speak wrong Hindi! To be honest, It (learning wrong Hindi) took the same amount of time I learned to speak actual Hindi!

Chandan Roy is currently in the village with his parents. After his commendable work in ‘Panchayat’, he has many offers now. Once everything falls into place, he will work on it. However, after all, is well, the first thing Chandan Roy has to do is to show the people of his village Bahnar ‘Panchayat’ on a big screen projector!
